IU Public Policy Institute Provides Opportunities for Students and Vista Staff

July 20, 2009

The IU Public Policy Institute is proud to be able to provide numerous opportunities this summer. We welcome all who have joined us and we would like to thank them for their contributions.

Elaine Cartas joins the Institute for the summer from University of California, Irvine as part of the Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP). SROP offers outstanding undergraduates the chance to work closely with faculty in an intensive summer research experience. The program gives students first-hand exposure to the experiences of graduate school and faculty life. Her mentors are Debra Mesch and Laura Littlepage.

Francis Chad Henderson joins the Institute as part of the Diversity Research Scholars Program which supports independent undergraduate student research and creative activity mentored by IUPUI faculty. His mentor is Eric Wright.

Lanlan Xu is a first year SPEA PhD student at IUB. She is a research assistant for the summer at the Center for Urban Policy and the Environment supporting housing, human cluster, and public finance projects.

Allyson Kennard and Brittiny Clinton are AmeriCorps Vista members. Allyson will be working at the Institute for the coming year and Brittiny will be with us for the summer. Allyson will be working to support the Summer Homeless Count for the Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention as well as building the capacity of the American Humanics Nonprofit Management Student Association. Brittiny is supporting research on homelessness issues. AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965 and incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993, VISTA has been on the front lines in the fight against poverty in America for more than 40 years.
