IUPUI researchers to study barriers to physical activity

A research team at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis has received a $150,000 grant to explore the relationship between urban trails and the level of physical activity among Indianapolis residents’ public health and to identify environmental factors and policies that influence physical activity.

The two-year grant was awarded in December to an interdisciplinary team headed by Greg Lindsey, director of the Center for Urban Policy and the Environment at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI. Funding is provided by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation through its Active Living Research initiative, a $12.5-million national program created to stimulate and support research that will identify environmental factors and policies that influence physical activity.
