Economic and Environmental Impact Study of Riverboat Casinos for the Indiana Gaming Commission

Services: Econometric modeling, Analytical studies, Survey design

Research Areas: Economic Development, Tax & Finance

Through several contracts with the Indiana Gaming Commission (beginning in 1994), PPI analyzed economic development impact, employment, local and state tax efforts, and financial and management capacity for all of the riverboat gaming applications received by the Gaming Commission for licenses in Indiana, including the Orange County license.

PPI performed the economic impact, fiscal impact, and other analyses required to monitor over time each riverboat operation through the annual, 5-year, and 8-year license renewal process. And, PPI evaluated the amount of revenue generated by licensed riverboat casinos, where the money is coming from, impacts on local communities, and other impacts created by riverboat gambling.

The original project title was Evaluation of Riverboat Gaming License Applications for the Indiana Gaming Commission and Review of Impact of Licensees. For more information on the work of the Commission or the evaluations conducted by PPI, visit the Commission website at
