Development of Evaluation Instruments for the LEAGUE

Services: Program evaluation, Survey design

Research Area: Housing & Community Development

The LEAGUE  is a nonprofit organization that uses a sports-theme system that awards points to students for philanthropic activities, including volunteering and fundraising. It incorporates curricula developed by Learning to Give on philanthropy with calendar-based events. Each school has student Captains and a teacher who serves as a Coach. The Coach, who is appointed by the principal, receives training, either in-person or web-based. The Coach facilitates the involvement of other teachers, mentors the student Captains, and reaches out to local businesses and volunteer organizations. In 2007, the LEAGUE contracted with CUPE to develop evaluation instruments for their programs.
