In partnership with the Indiana Motorsports Association, PPI estimated the contributions of the motorsports to Indiana’s economy while looking at national and global industry trends. The study was part of a larger project being led by Purdue University to develop a motorsports and vehicle production network. Other states and regions are aggressively seeking motorsports-related investments. If Indiana is to continue to attract its fair share of motorsports jobs, income, and investment, industry leaders and the public sector must work together.
Our study focused on identifying the factors that affect the competitiveness of motorsports in Indiana, including:
o Identify issues that affect the competitiveness of existing companies and the attractiveness of Indiana to new and relocating companies o Explore workforce development issues, including the potential for building upon the progress made by many of the state’s public and private academic institutions o Identify potential research and development opportunities, including technology transfers to other industry sectors and options to capture the motorsports R&D expenditures made by Indiana firms that are currently leaking out of the state o Create a set of industry benchmarks that can be monitored on a regular basis (semi-annually) in order to more immediately react to both threats and opportunities
