• Geographic information systems

Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) that integrate hardware, software and data for capturing, managing, analyzing and displaying information related to geography, the IU Public Policy Institute can help you see relationships, patterns and trends over a geographic area. We will then display this information as maps, globes, reports and charts to help facilitate your decision-making process.

  • Simulation modeling

The best way to understand how something will interact with its environment is to put it in that environment. When that something is an idea still in development, you can only imagine the possibilities … or simulate them with technology. Through simulation modeling, the IU Public Policy Institute can create and analyze a digital prototype of a physical model to predict its performance in the real world.

  • Econometric modeling

Want to understand the relationship between two marketplace factors, such as income and spending, or taxes and investment? The IU Public Policy can gather the data necessary to establish and test a relationship between two economic factors, develop a model for understanding the impact, and interpret the results.

  • Hedonic modeling

Sometimes you have to take something apart to understand how it works. Through hedonic modeling, the IU Public Policy Institute deconstructs concepts such as price or value into the internal and external variables affecting them and then assesses the impact of each variable individually. For example, the Institute can help to determine an area’s home values by assessing variables related directly to the homes (size, architectural style, amenities, etc.) while also considering outside variables (neighborhood condition, market activity, economy, etc.). Through this process, each variable’s relative value and the influence on the home’s overall value can be identified and assessed.
