Evaluating the Effectiveness of the Internship Programs in Indiana

Services: Survey analysis, Focus groups, Survey design

Research Area: Economic Development

In 2013 for Indiana INTERNnet (IIN), PPI conducted an assessment of Indiana's internship programs and identified ways for improvement. The project includes the following objectives:

  • Understand and document the current state of internships in Indiana, including those directly involving IIN
  • Review promising practices of other internship programs nationally
  • Identify opportunities to improve Indiana internship programs
  • Develop design parameters and key specifications for a prospective data collection, analysis, and reporting system to facilitate tracking and ongoing assessment of Indiana internships

The tasks include working with an advisory group for guidance and to establish a common set of goals, a best practices review, key informant interviews/focus groups/surveys, and using the Indiana Workforce Intelligence System for data analysis. The project will result in a set of system requirements to guide subsequent development and implementation for an Internship Information System (IIS).
