Managing volunteers is a difficult undertaking. Not only are volunteers motivated differently than paid employees, but given the absence of a contract, volunteers ‘vote with their feet’ and leave organizations when they are dissatisfied. This report summarizes findings from a research project that is a collaboration between the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI and the Boy Scouts Crossroads of America Council (BSA).
